Keep your bait and catch in top condition
Good bait and berley only work if they stay fresh. Keep frozen bait in a chilly bin until you need it, and only thaw what you plan to use in the next hour or so. Berley works best when it is released steadily, so hang the pot near the bottom on an anchored boat or drop it close to the rocks on a gentle current.
Once you start catching, dispatch and bleed fish quickly, then get them onto salt ice straight away. Salt ice chills faster than regular ice and keeps fillets firm for the trip home. If you are unsure what to pick up for your plan, ask the team, and check the MetService marine forecast before you head out.
